Dauphinoise Potatoes Delight

A creamy and comforting gratin of thinly sliced potatoes baked with cream, garlic, and optional Gruyère cheese, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • Water (for tossing slices)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 cups heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1–2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter or oil.
  2. Thinly slice the potatoes into about 1/8-inch slices using a mandoline or sharp knife.
  3. Place the potato slices in a bowl, cover with water, and season with salt and pepper. Let sit for a few minutes, then drain and pat dry.
  4. Layer potato slices in the prepared dish, pouring cream and dotting with pieces of butter between layers. Add minced garlic if desired.
  5. If using, sprinkle grated Gruyère on top. Cover with foil.
  6. Bake covered for 45 minutes, then uncover and continue baking for 15 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
  7. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
