A warm and cozy drink that soothes the throat and brings comfort on chilly nights.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 ounces whiskey (bourbon or rye)
  • 2 teaspoons honey (adjust to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice (plus a lemon round for garnish)
  • 6 ounces hot water (just off the boil)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
  • 2 to 3 whole cloves (optional, tuck into the lemon round)

Instructions

  1. Heat water until it is very hot, just before boiling.
  2. Warm your mug with hot water, then pour that water out.
  3. Add 2 teaspoons honey to the mug. Pour in 6 ounces hot water and stir until honey dissolves.
  4. Add 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice. Stir again and taste for balance; adjust with more honey if too tart.
  5. Pour in 1.5 ounces whiskey and give a gentle stir.
  6. Garnish with a lemon wheel, cinnamon stick, and cloves if desired.
  7. Take a sip and adjust with a touch more lemon or honey to make it yours.
