1 large yellow onion
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or 1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Peel the onion and trim the bottom slightly so it sits flat.
Cut a deep cross on top of the onion, stopping before cutting all the way through.
Place the onion on a sheet of aluminum foil.
Insert butter into the cuts and sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic, and paprika.
Wrap the onion tightly in foil, sealing it completely.
Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the onion is tender.
Carefully unwrap, garnish if desired, and serve warm.
