  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the buttermilk, mixing until the batter is smooth.
  5. Stir in the hot water until the batter becomes thin and glossy.
  6. Gently fold in the chopped walnuts if using this moist chocolate walnut cake.
