- 500g minced beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 medium carrot, grated
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 cup beef stock or prepared gravy
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato paste or ketchup
- 1 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 800g potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup milk or cream
- Peel and chop the potatoes into chunks. Place them in a large pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook until soft, about 15–20 minutes.
- While the potatoes cook, heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft.
- Stir in the garlic and grated carrot, cooking for another 2–3 minutes.
- Add the minced beef to the pan. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Pour in the beef stock or gravy and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for about 10 minutes, then stir in the peas and cook for an additional 2–3 minutes.
- Once the potatoes are soft, drain and mash them with butter and milk or cream until smooth and fluffy. Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve the seasoned mince over a generous scoop of mashed potatoes.
