Loaded Tater Tot Cups are crispy, cheesy, and packed with flavor. These mini tater tot baskets are baked until golden and filled with melted cheese, bacon, sour cream, and green onions, making them the ultimate finger food appetizer for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 36 frozen tater tots (about 3 per cup)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking spray or oil (for greasing the muffin tin)
  • Optional add-ins: hot sauce, ranch dressing, chopped jalapeños, diced bell peppers, shredded chicken

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C). Lightly grease a 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray or oil.
  2. Place three frozen tater tots into each muffin cup. Bake for 10 minutes to soften.
  3. Use a spoon or small glass to press the tots down into the bottom and up the sides of each cup to form a cup shape.
  4. Return the tater tot cups to the oven and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove the cups from the oven. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon bits into each cup.
  6. Bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  7. Let the cups cool for a few minutes. Top each one with a dollop of sour cream and sprinkle with chopped green onions.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use frozen tater tots straight from the freezer; do not thaw them.
  • For extra crispy cups, bake them a few minutes longer before adding the cheese filling.
  • Add sour cream and fresh toppings only after baking.
  • Grease your muffin tin generously to prevent sticking.
  • These loaded tater tot cups can be prepped ahead and reheated before serving.
