  • 400 grams (14 oz) firm tofu
  • 4 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • About 1 cup vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Drain the tofu and press it for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut the pressed tofu into uniform bite-sized cubes.
  3. In a small bowl, stir together honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
  4. Coat each tofu cube evenly in cornstarch.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Drain the crispy tofu on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Return the skillet to medium heat, pour in the honey garlic sauce, and let it simmer for about a minute.
  8. Add the crispy tofu back into the skillet, tossing gently to coat it in the sauce.
  9. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
