Copycat Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole is the ultimate comfort food classic — creamy, cheesy, and golden brown on top. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, holidays, or family dinners.

  • 1 (32 oz) bag frozen hash browns, thawed
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded Colby or cheddar cheese, divided
  • Optional: Chopped green onions or cooked bacon for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine hash browns, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, melted butter, onion, salt, pepper, and 1 cup of cheese. Stir until evenly mixed.
  3. Spread the mixture evenly into the baking dish. Top with the remaining cheese.
  4. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  5. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving for the perfect creamy texture.
  6. Mix ingredients as above and transfer to a greased slow cooker.
  7. Cook on LOW for 3–4 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours.
  8. Sprinkle extra cheese on top during the last 30 minutes and leave uncovered to melt.
