Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups water
  • 46 whole cloves
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 inch slice fresh ginger root
  • 1 tea bag black tea
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
  • Lemon wedge or lemon juice, optional
  • Star anise, optional, 1 piece
  • Cardamom pods, optional, 2 pods

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the water, cinnamon stick, cloves, and ginger. Bring to a gentle simmer as the aroma begins to rise.
  2. Simmer for about 10 minutes to let the spices mingle with the water, turning a warm amber color.
  3. Add the black tea and simmer for an additional 2–3 minutes to infuse depth without overextracting tannins.
  4. Remove from heat. If using loose leaf tea, strain the mixture. For a stronger brew, steep a bit longer, tasting as you go.
  5. Stir in honey or maple syrup to taste.
  6. Finish with a splash of lemon if you like to brighten the cup.
  7. Pour into a mug and garnish with a small cinnamon stick or a lemon wheel; enjoy as a comforting, cozy ritual.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness to your preference.
