Celebrate with a stunning Christmas Black Forest Trifle. This no-bake holiday dessert layers rich chocolate cake, sweet cherries, silky pudding, and fluffy whipped cream into one show-stopping treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box) or store-bought chocolate cake
  • 2 cans cherry pie filling
  • 1 container (8 oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 box (5.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 cups cold milk (for pudding)
  • Optional: chocolate shavings, maraschino cherries, or fresh cherries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chocolate cake according to package instructions. Let it cool completely before cutting into cubes. You can also use store-bought cake or brownies for convenience.
  2. In a bowl, whisk instant pudding mix with cold milk for 2–3 minutes until thickened. Let sit for a few more minutes to set.
  3. Slice cooled cake into 1–2 inch cubes to form the base and middle layers.
  4. In a clear trifle bowl, layer ingredients in this order: cake cubes, chocolate pudding, cherry pie filling, and whipped topping. Repeat the layers until the bowl is full, ending with whipped topping.
  5. Top with chocolate shavings, cherries, or cocoa powder for a festive touch.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 2–4 hours or overnight to allow the layers to set and flavors to blend.
