Baked Tuna Casserole is a creamy, cheesy, and crunchy comfort food classic made with pantry staples like canned tuna, egg noodles, and cream of mushroom soup. This easy tuna casserole recipe is perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces wide egg noodles
  • 2 cups chopped broccoli
  • 8 ounces sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 (6-ounce) cans tuna, drained
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup crushed potato chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Bring 4 quarts of salted water to a boil. Add noodles and cook until almost al dente. Two minutes before noodles are done, add broccoli. Drain and set aside.
  3. Dry sauté mushrooms in a skillet over medium-high heat until moisture evaporates, about 5–10 minutes. Set aside.
  4. In a large oven-safe pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  5. In the noodle pot, combine noodles, broccoli, mushrooms, sautéed onions, tuna, cream of mushroom soup, cheese, milk, cream, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  6. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish. Top with crushed potato chips.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes at 400°F until topping is golden and bubbling. Optionally, broil for 2 minutes to crisp further.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use low-fat milk and reduced-fat cheese.
  • Breadcrumbs can replace chips for a subtler topping.
  • Freeze before baking for easy meal prep.
  • Add peas, green beans, or diced zucchini for variety.
