  • 1 cup (240 ml) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200 g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (180 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 box (about 16 oz or 450 g) saltine crackers
  • 1 cup (120 g) chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, ensuring it’s smooth and wrinkle-free.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Arrange a single layer of saltine crackers on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. In a medium saucepan, combine unsalted butter and both sugars over medium heat.
  5. Stir continuously until the butter melts and sugar dissolves completely.
  6. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and bubble for 3-4 minutes, stirring often.
  7. Remove from heat and pour the caramel evenly over the saltine crackers.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes until caramel is bubbling and darkened.
  9. Sprinkle melted chocolate chips over the hot caramel and let sit for a few minutes.
  10. Spread the softened chocolate with a spatula to create a smooth layer.
  11. Allow the toffee to cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate to set faster.
  12. Cut into squares or rectangles and serve on a decorative platter or festive tin.
