Ingredients
Scale
4 ripe but firm bananas, peeled
1/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to your sweetness preference)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice (optional)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut (optional)
Pinch of sea salt (optional)
Cooking spray
Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 250°F (120°C).
Slice the bananas into 1/8-inch thick slices.
Gently toss the banana slices with lemon juice to prevent browning and add tang.
In a medium bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice (if using), and salt (if using). Mix well.
Add the lemon-juiced banana slices to the spice mixture and toss gently until evenly coated.
If using shredded coconut, add it now and gently mix.
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
Arrange the banana slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding. Work in batches if necessary.
Air fry for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Check for doneness around 15 minutes. The chips are ready when golden brown and crispy. If still soft, continue air frying in 2-3 minute increments.
Remove the banana chips from the air fryer and let them cool completely on a wire rack to crisp up further.
Once cooled, transfer the air fryer banana chips to an airtight container for storage.
Notes
Adjust sugar amount for desired sweetness. Too much sugar can make chips sticky.
Experiment with other spices like ginger or cardamom for different flavor profiles.
For oven baking, use a conventional oven at 200°F for a longer time, though results may be less crispy.
Drizzle melted dark chocolate over cooled chips for a decadent treat.
Thicker banana slices will require a longer cooking time.
For a healthier option, reduce or omit sugar and use a sugar substitute.
